Little Details to Make Your Floral Card Shine (First Post!)
Hi, there! Emily Midgett here with you today, and I am so very excited to be sharing my first post as an official member of the Altenew Card Design Team! I've been in love with (obsessed with?) Altenew flower stamps for longer than I care to admit, and so being invited to be on the Design Team is truly a dream come true! For my first post, I thought I'd use some of my most favorite products to create a card that's pretty and feminine, with lots of shiny details to help make it extra special.
The Statement Flowers Stamp Set features some gorgeous, massive blooms that easily cover almost your entire card front. The sheer size of these blooms make them a joy to color in any medium because you can really dig down into the little nooks and crevices to get some fantastic shading.
Embossing and Watercoloring
I've begun my project by heat embossing the Statement Flowers stamp onto some of Altenew's A2 Watercolor Paper using Golden Peach Crisp Embossing Powder. This watercolor paper is so smooth that embossing detailed images like this is a dream, and the quality is so lovely that you can layer to your heart's content without worrying about it pilling or disintegrating! I used the Artists' Watercolor 24 Pan Set to watercolor the flowers a pretty coral pink, and then used the coordinating die to die cut the floral swag. Extra Details
One of my favorite ways to add extra details to my card fronts is to add elements of metallic shine. I'd already added one metallic element (the Golden Peach embossing powder), so to complement that, I die cut a Creative Edges: Lace Die from some shiny dark copper foil. I adhered that to a pale blush A2 card front, oriented to the right side, and then layered the floral watercolored die-cut over the top, covering the seam and using foam adhesive for extra dimension.
Card Greeting
For the greeting, I heat embossed “You are so loved” from Sentiment Strips 2 Stamp Set onto some dark maroon cardstock, again using Golden Peach Crisp Embossing Powder. I love using the Tall Alpha dies to add some bold words that help enhance the smaller sentiments, so I die cut “friend” from some more dark maroon cardstock.
First, I used my gridded Crafter's Essential Cutting and Alignment Mat to get the die-cut letters nice and straight. Then, I picked them up (still in a straight line) with some washi tape and added liquid adhesive to the back. Next, I placed it over the top of the floral die-cut and allowed it to dry before removing the washi tape. Finally, I adhered the maroon sentiment strip and added one final metallic element: some rose gold gems to help fill in some of the blank spaces. The addition of these little details really help to “finish” the card and kick it up a notch!
