3 Incredibly Easy Ways To Create Plaid Backgrounds | Lydia’s Crafty Corner + Video

Hi there, everyone! Lydia here. Today I'll be sharing 3 incredibly easy ways to create plaid backgrounds using 3 different techniques.

Technique 1- Watercolor

Watercolor is an easy way to add plaid to your projects. I used a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of watercolor cardstock and simply painted lines using colors from Artist Watercolor 24 Pan Set to create this look. I used the grid lines on my cutting mat to try and help me get the lines straight. Now this won't give you a perfect look, unless you have a super steady hand, but I still love the look it gives.

Technique 2- Artist Markers

Another way to add a little plaid is by using Artist Markers. This time I had a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel of white cardstock and simply drew on straight lines using Artist Markers (Sunkissed, Autumn Blaze, and Desert Night Markers). As before, I used the guide lines on my cutting mat to get the lines straight. This one has a cleaner look to the first but still has a rustic charm about it.

Technique 3- Colored Cardstock

A third way to add plaid is using colored cardstock. I cut strips of Warm Sunshine, Caramel Toffee, and Navy Cardstock in various sized strips and then adhered these to a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card panel. You can see that this gives a much cleaner look than the previous two techniques.

To finish all of the cards, I cut a mat and layer from white and Navy Cardstock using Soda Top Nesting Die Set. The sentiment is from Across The Pond Stamp Set and I stamped this using Obsidian Pigment Ink.
