Lydia’s Crafty Corner: Using Die Cuts as Stencils

It's Lydia here with you. Today, I want to share a way to stretch your dies by using them as stencils.

I started by blending Mango Smoothie, Pink Pearl, and Coral Bliss Inks on to a piece of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ white cardstock panel. I added the colors randomly starting with the lightest color and working up to the darkest, and then back down to blend the colors nicely.

I then cut the Spring Shower Cover Die from a piece of masking paper and added this on top of the blended piece. Using a white pigment ink, I blended color over the whole piece and heat set it. Since I used pigment ink, I used a heat tool to set as this takes a while to dry. Once dry I removed the die-cut mask.

I then added some hand doodling to the white floral images. You do want to make sure that the pigment ink has dried properly so that it's easy to draw on using a black fine line pen. If the ink isn't quite dry, it can block your marker.

For the sentiment, I used Caps Bold Alphabet Die Set. I cut this from black cardstock with a strip of Gold Glitter Washi Tape at the bottom to give a gold-dipped look.
