Water Bleached Background + Video

Hi, friends!

Svitlana is here. I'm a big fan of techniques as you already probably know. And background techniques have a special spot in my heart. Today I want to share with you one of them – bleaching with water.

I started by wetting a  watercolor panel with clear water using a Large Watercolor Brush.  Then I made a simple watercolor background using the Sea Breeze and Dusk Watercolor Brush Markers from the Spring Garden Watercolor Brush Markers Set.  I added pigment from the markers onto the wet paper and blended it out with a clear brush.

After I finished with the background, I put t aside to let dry completely.

After the panel dried, I white embossed the Delicate Flower Bed background onto the panel.  And then the technique came to play. I started adding clear water inside of the white embossed flower and blotted them with a paper towel.

It created this interesting effect as if the flowers were made out of vellum and adhered onto the card.

Next, I added splatters of the Pure White Ink Spray as well as pearlized water.

I die cut letters for the sentiment out of a Jet Black and silver glitter cardstock using dies from the Fine Alphabet Die Set and stacked them with a slight offset. After that, they were adhered onto the panel.

I also white embossed a sentiment from the Delicate Flower Bed Stamp Set onto a Jet Black strip and adhered it onto the panel.

Lastly, I added several Silver Crystals to accentuate the card.

Below you can find the process video where you can see how this card was made. You can watch it here or in HD on Altenew’s YouTube channel:

Have a wonderful day!
